College life with PYLON.

by Mr Dhenmark Valera

“Stress”, “depressed”, “annoyed” and excited- this are some of the feelings of entering tertiary level of education. After the graduation I can’t stop thinking of my college life, if whether this would be happy, miserable or hell experience for me. And by the time I and my classmates inquired in POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILLIPINES, we can’t erase the words “wow”, “ang ganda”, “ang laki” and “COOL” in our mouth.
In ourselves we keep on saying “wow” because we went in P.U.P without the accompaniment of our parents but just a said direction my classmate’s friend. We ride in a bus without knowing if this is the right bus that we will take. And even though we’re lack of knowledge and only have fighting spirits in our pockets we still arrived at the PUP entrance safe. I remember my classmate’s line, “ang cool nakatsinelas tas civilian lang, kahit anong get-up pwede, bagay tayo ditto!” and that make us laugh because of his reaction and being amazed. We also witnessed how the staff of PUP was accommodating, from the security guard to the registrar admin.
Days and days have passed by, different falling-in line method of getting papers and the judgment day of the interviewer was successfully done. And the first day came, before that day I have butterfly in the stomach and a fast heartbeat happened to me and insomnia attacks. The first day of college days was not that good because of some snobbish classmates and my first impression to them are rich kids. Days and weeks came but it is not that easy to establish a good relationship with my classmates, I’ve experience a culture shock within the college because I didn't expect the gay society in COC. But after the2 years of being a masscomm student in COC I already cope up with that trend and now, that “anaphylactic shock” is now accepted by me.

Wheel Of Experience

College days sounds exciting if you’re a freshmen, wondering if what would be your greatest and at the same time worst experience. As a third year PUP collegiate I think I’ve already encountered 2/3’s of must be experience of a PUP’ian. And what are those? If you have a sluggish professor you have options to choose; 1st go to SM Manila or Sta. Mesa to watch Php.25.00 movie J 2nd have a bonding with your friends at Rizal Park and last go home early! And if you have that kind of professor expect that he/ she don’t have basis for your grades so he/she might use the “wheel of GRADES”  or if they are familiar with your face but not with the name your in god hands but if not better luck next time. These are some of the crazy stuff that you might encounter and next to be tackle will be the memorable for every PUP’ian.

September 26, 2007, Typhoon Ondoy. Saturday afternoon, when office of the President announced the dismissal of class when flood in Pureza is already up to the hips. If you’re Engineering or a Mass comm student you have no alternative route and the last option is for you to pass and conquer the polluted water. It was an adventurous thing and also disastrous for me and all PUP’ians. And every time that there is a signal no.1 or a continuous rainfall expects that PUP’ian is waiting for the suspension because of trauma in Ondoy.

The second and usual thing that you can see in PUP is rally. Who didn’t know the throwing of chairs, tables, cabinets and blackboards of the activists from 4th floor to the ground? What about the nationwide rally condemning the administration about the budget cut? And the boycotting of the activist in PUP on tuition fee increase.

Everyday you can see some member of an organization shouting and saying things that the University should have this kind of facilities and whatsoever. Sometimes their walkouts are being approved by the professor and if the professors think that the principles of this activists are right they will join to them and march like what happened when there is supposedly a tuition fee increase.

Those are some of the once in a lifetime experience but has a great impact in our everyday lives as PUP'ian!

College Founding Anniversary

We already know the different experience of PUPian before entering the university and during the school days. Now we will explore some of colleges founding anniversary ( COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION, COLLEGE OF ACCOUNTANCY, COLLEGE OF COMPUTER MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, COLLEGE OF ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATION and COLLEGE OF ARTS).

COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION. "just the usual celebration. week long, started with the thanksgiving mass, parade for the freshmen and sophomores, different organization conducting booths that serves as their IGP and the Mr. and Ms. COC"- Ana Dominique Del Mundo BBrC 3-1n. In addition, COC conducted a concert with the  COC students, Faculty members and the Dean of COC from 2001 from 2011. In it's decade of excellence, we are expecting a lot of activities.

COLLEGE OF COMPUTER MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. Like with the other colleges they do it with a parade in the main campus with the theme color of yellow. It's a long week of celebration and no classes, so everything they want to do or go are okay.

COLLEGE OF ARTS.  They (college of tourism and hotel and restaurant  management, and 4 other colleges) celebrate their founding simultaneously. For their theme they came with the cos playing of different cartoon character and also they do the parade in the main campus.

It’s a big preparation for them (For their costume, banner and also for the cosplayers).

COLLEGE OF ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATION. "actually our college first started the idea of having 'college weeks' in P.U.P. we celebrate ours in different way. Our ad week are celebrated creatively; we think of different concepts and theme for particular theme"- Unice Grace Dalisay, BADPR 3-1.
They celebrate their 30th founding anniversary this coming November so they are thinking to go with "SPOOKY HALLOWEEN" or "AD BARKADS THEME".

This are some of the College Founding Anniversary. And for other colleges they also have the unique way of celebrating their college weeks such as parade, organization's booth, seminar, pageant and many more. For the last entry I'll show you the FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY of POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY of the PHILIPPINES.

Mi último blog

Ooops. my plan crashed! Supposedly, I should discuss the 107th Anniversary of POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES, but since the last entry is a requirement for us to share our experience being a blogger.

"Online Writing through blog is a serious type of publishing words, sentences, thoughts or opinions about your topic". That's the idea come to my mind when ma'am Angie told us what to do in this subject. Blogging is so "hard" because you will think so many things such as how you will get the interest and attention of your readers especially our targeted audience(aspiring PUP students and PUP'ians), the design, content and visuals. And also I'm thinking if the topic will be given to me is interesting and at the same time, am I interested to it?

PUP exp (experience) is the assigned topic to me. I've already experienced some of "must be" experience of a PUP student so I can share my experience and give some  tips to them. And as a newbie blogger, it's another quest for me to explore the other student's experience such as accoutancy, HRM, Adverising and others.

I have also some experience but not related or have something to do with my topic. Since our group have a deal that we must accompanied each and everyone while doing her blog or taking a picture. Before we take a picture we must ask their permission or if we run out of time we take it stolen. But we always ask their permission and sometimes they are friendly and ask to have the copy of the picture or tag it to them and in that way we add them in facebook or vice versa.

A new experience for me not as a mass communication student but as PUPian. Extending my COLLEGE LIFE WITH PYLON up to others college life.

THAT's ALL!  J
